Who We Are
Geneva Trading was founded in 1999 by traders
H. Arthur Brereton and
Thomas S. Freytag, who both began their careers on the floor of
the Chicago Board of Trade. The two moved to Europe in the early
1990s to trade on the London International Financial Futures and
Options Exchange (LIFFE) and several years later created Geneva
Trading in Dublin, Ireland.
Since then, Geneva has grown into a global proprietary
trading firm, opening our headquarters in Chicago in 2000 and a
Cork, Ireland office in 2008. The firm now has more than 100 traders
and staff worldwide and is a top volume player in more than 13 markets
we trade globally.
Experience
Geneva is supported and guided by a management
and trading team with unparalleled experience in the derivatives
industry. Our principals began trading in the late 1970s when financial
futures were introduced and all have first-hand trading experience
in Chicago, London, Paris and Sydney in fixed income, stock indices,
commodities and currencies.
We've traded during market crashes, natural disasters,
terrorist attacks, political embargoes, wars and invasions as well
as periods of negligible volatility and flat markets. We know how
to take advantage of volatile market opportunities and maintain
capital when markets are slow and less turbulent.
Our management team has worked on both the buy side
and the sell side of the market and held senior positions at the
leading exchanges. Together, we have worked and operated in over
10 countries on four continents. It is this breadth of experience
that we integrate into Geneva's business and pass onto our traders.
The Difference
Geneva's sole focus is on proprietary trading.
Since establishing the firm, our philosophy and goals have been
straight forward and identical with our traders. We only make money
when our traders make money.
Geneva has no incentive for our traders to overtrade
or generate large commissions. We have no client business nor any
customer brokerage activities. Our mandate is finding the best trading
opportunities and developing the tools and methodologies to effectively
trade them with acceptable risk. Our research team evaluates fundamental
and technical opportunities as well as the macro- and micro-impact
of market events.
All markets have volatile and flat cycles. At Geneva,
we constantly work with our traders to be nimble, to move into markets
where the best opportunities lie and utilize our extensive market
experience as well as innovative ideas that separate Geneva from
all others in the market.
Geneva is committed to using the most cutting
edge technology in the industry to ensure our traders have the fastest,
most reliable access to securities and derivatives markets.
