H. Arthur Brereton
Founding Member
H. Arthur Brereton co-founded Geneva Trading in Dublin and
served as its Managing Partner. Mr. Brereton moved back to Chicago and opened headquarters there in 2001. He currently
serves as Founding Partner at the firm.
Mr. Brereton moved to London in 1993 and became a member of the London
International Financial Futures Exchange (LIFFE) where he traded European interest rate
products. He joined Marquette Partners in 1994 and became an equity partner
before leaving to form Geneva Trading.
Mr. Brereton’s experience in derivatives began as a member
the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) where he traded US interest rate futures
from 1983 to 1985. He took two years off from trading as a member of the
Chicago Challenge to the 1987 America’s Cup in Australia. Afterward, he remained in
Australia and traded as a member of the Sydney Futures Exchange for three years. Upon
returning to Chicago, he traded currencies at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) from 1990 to 1991.
Mr. Brereton came to derivatives trading as a second career.
Before trading, he attended University of Michigan School of Naval Architecture
from 1972 to 1976. Mr. Brereton worked as a Naval Architect, designing hardware
for racing sailboats from 1976 until 1983. During that time his designs were
used on America’s Cup yachts, ocean racers, and Olympic and other one
design classes through out the world. He founded Melges Spars, Inc. in 1979
with sailing icon Buddy Melges. He continues to serve as a
consultant to Melges Performance Sailboats.
Mr. Brereton is also an accomplished sailor, having
participated in and won numerous regattas in the U.S.
and overseas. He is the current Melges 17 National Champion. He is also active
in water and land conservancies in Michigan and Missouri.
He currently holds an office on the Board of Deacons at the First Presbyterian
Church of Wilmette.
