Thomas Freytag co-founded Geneva Trading in 1999 in
Dublin and serves as Director for the firm.
Mr. Freytag developed and teaches his trading methodology
and discipline to Geneva’s traders.
His managed trading group is focused on global futures, commodities and equity
trading within the framework of high reward, low risk strategies.
Prior to establishing Geneva Trading, Mr. Freytag worked as a
trader and manager for Marquette Partners. In 1992, Mr. Freytag moved to London
to arbitrage German government bonds or bund futures between the trading floor
at the London International Financial Futures Exchange (LIFFE) and the
electronic market of the German exchange (DTB), now Eurex. This allowed him to
advance his trading skills while introducing him to the world of international
arbitrage and inter-market spreading.
From there, he helped manage and expand Marquette Partners’
proprietary trading group from one to 25 traders and became a partner in 1995.
Mr. Freytag got his start in futures trading in 1985 at the Chicago
Board of Trade (CBOT) as a clerk for an options and futures proprietary trading
group after graduating from the University of Michigan. He learned the basics
of futures and options trading and immediately became captivated with the
technical and fundamental aspects of futures markets. He also learned the art
of local market making or “scalping” in the CBOT’s bond and equity index
trading pits.
Mr. Freytag received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial
and Operations Engineering with an emphasis in mathematics and economics.
Mr. Freytag also is a world class sailor. Growing up in Lake
Geneva, Wisconsin and racing since the age of six, Mr. Freytag has competed
around the world at the highest level. After moving to England in 1992,
Mr. Freytag began racing an International Melges 24 on its newly formed regatta
circuit. Freytag and his crew won the overall Gold Cup in 1997, 2002 and
2003 and the US National Championship in 2003. He also won the Corinthian (non-professional)
US National Championship in 2003, North American Championship in 2004, European
Championship in 2001 and World Championship in 1999.
