A veteran of small trading firms, Mary M. McDonnell
says her new job as president and CEO of Chicago-based proprietary
trading house Geneva Trading is a better fit than the management
positions she has held at exchanges in recent years.
"I spent 18 years running a trading firm so it's
more like coming home to me to come back into this environment.
This is kind of where my experience and my heart and soul is,"
she says.
The last seven years though, McDonnell has worked
on big projects for big exchanges. Most recently McDonnell was senior
VP at the Chicago Board of Trade. When she worked at the Bermuda
Commodities Exchange (BCOE) in 1997-99, her responsibilities included
developing, implementing and operating the first Internet-based
electronic futures exchange.
"Back then…everybody who did have any sort
of electronic exchange…, it was a point to point, it was all
dedicated lines. To do something over the Internet was completely
cutting edge," McDonnell says.
